December 23,2013 I walked into a hardware shop in river road and bought several heavy goods worth well over 80k. Feeling weary and realizing I couldnt carry the goods back to my vehicle parked at Nakumatt lifestyle i flagged down a trolley guy and inquired how much he would charge me to the parking lot. He quoted 150 but i haggled and we agreed on 100bob. He was wearing dirty slippers and looked hungry and tired and i imagined he would not outrun me. Along the way at Khoja Mosque we lost contact due to a jam. These mkokoteni guys move fast. I didnt have his number and i dint know where his operation base was.Naturally i started counting my loses. I regretted not agreeing to pay him the 150, now he had goods worth 80k. Christmas couldnt get better for him.For well over 45 minutes i tried to trace him.No Luck. I didnt have a clue where to start. So down trodden i walked to Lifestyle to pick my vehicle as I contemplated how to sort my Christmas mess. Guess who I found at the Nakumatt entrance? My trolley guy waiting for me and lamenting Boss ulienda wapi na vile nimekungojea hapa, sasa utaongezea ile 50bob kama waiting charges. I poked out a 500 note and gave him.Boss sina change. Unaitwa aje?, I asked him. Odongo, he replied. Namba yako ya simu? All the while feeling like hugging him. Mkubwa mimi sina simu..Okay keep change i told him. He took off like a bullet before I changed my mind. Up to this day i still try to imagine if it was a Kamau who was behind that trolley.
