December 27, 2014 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV) I enjoy the holidays and the time with family and friends. I enjoy the laughter, the chatter and the swapping of happy stories. Part of the joy is also the food we share, which doesnt just drop out of nowhere. For years, on holidays, and usually the night before, Ive been one of the millions doing hard time in the kitchen: peeling potatoes, baking pies, basting turkeys, and making dressing. I enjoy of What comes of all the work. But I have to admit that Ive had my weak moments when my back was tired and my wrists were hurting and I fantasized briefly about going out to dinner. This year my son Chase volunteered to host our dinner. My friend Portia, her husband Clarence, and my daughter Laura and I drove up from Durham, North Carolina, to Cincinnati. I still expected to cook, so I carried my skillet with me(have cookware, will travel). My children took over, and there was hardly anything for me to do. One of Chases friends cooked the turkey and made stuffing. Chase wrestled a cut of fresh pork, he and Laura stuffed it with cheese and apples, and then he lassoed it with some string and tossed it in the oven. He made mashed potatoes and sauteed some vegetables. Laura made mouth watering macaroni and cheese. I only made sugar free chocolate cream pie and sweet potato casserole, and everything was complete. Contrary to popular opinion, it was a joy to have so many cooks in the kitchen. The house was filled with friends and relatives, food and song, warmth and even a movie. It was such a blessing not only to eat but to prepare a holiday meal that way. I hope its a new tradition, and I wonder why I never thought of it before. Lord, thank You for family, friends and wonderful holidays. Sharon Foster
