December 28th, 1988: The Underground (Sub Pop 200 Record Release Party), Seattle, WA The Sub Pop 200 compilation was released this month and NIRVANA perform at the release party. The album also includes Tad, Screaming Trees, The Fluid, Soundgarden, Green River, The Fastbacks and others. The record made its way to the desk of British DJ John Peel, who then talked it up on his show and started much of the European buzz surrounding Sub Pop and The Seattle Scene. Seattle poet Steven Jesse Bernstein, who committed suicide in 1991, introduces the band, saying, And now, the mystery guest...with the freeze-dried music...NIR...VANA! They went over massively at this show.
