Decent turnout at the counter-demonstration today! The public had short notice of the event, and we threw together our efforts toward the counter-demo within 24 hours. We successfully showed opposition to the racists who sought to frighten immigrant children who (according to the Tea Party) were being bussed into KidsPeace. Several of the racists probably went home irritated with our presence. Some were visibly armed and many communicated disgusting messages that only confirmed their bigotry. One had a blatantly racist sign that accused Mexican immigrants of having leprosy, scabies, dengue fever, and Mexican AIDS. Another sign of theirs equated immigrants with trash that needed to be disposed of. Plenty of folks driving by flipped them off. Our peak turnout was roughly 25. The Tea Party had upwards of 75 people, many of whom appeared to have traveled a long distance to their rally. However, our presence was a constant nuisance to them and ours was much more diverse (go figure). Thanks to all who turned out on such short notice! I think we sent the message that the Lehigh Valley wont tolerate the bullying of workers children by hateful bigots. - WJ
