Deep thoughts from Br Umar - Tobias Taitt: ‘Real Victory’ - TopicsExpress

Deep thoughts from Br Umar - Tobias Taitt: ‘Real Victory’ doesn’t need a Hollywood ending. In Ramadan it’s common for Imams/speakers to reflect on the historical victories that have taken place during this blessed month such as the battle of Badr and conquest of Mecca, as it’s (arguably) as a result of these victories that we are here today. Since the beginning of the ‘so called’ Arab-Spring many Muslim’s began to speak of victory being close at hand, but as Egypt falters and Syria experiences setbacks, the same ones are now speaking despondently that ‘Victory won’t come until the Mehdi arrives.’ The reason for this is most people’s concept of victory is very narrow. The Prophet (s) said: ‘My Ummah will follow the ways of the non Muslims even if it be down the hole of a lizard.’ Sahih. These days victory must have a Hollywood ending. Like the end of Apartheid. Nelson Mandela served 27 years in prison, then after being released went on to become the President of South Africa and in the eyes of many ‘The greatest man who ever lived’ (David Cameron.) A Hollywood ending if ever there was one. Mandela’s story is inspirational, but there were many that contributed to his victory, such as anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko, who was beaten to death by South African police and known as ‘The martyr of the anti-apartheid movement’. Biko didn’t live to see the fall of apartheid, but when South Africa’s first non racial elections were held in 1994, Biko’s image was used for campaign posters. The same analogy stands in Islam, but more so. The battle of Badr and conquest of Mecca were great victories, especially for those present, but they were also victories for those that weren’t like Sumaya (the first female martyr) and her husband Yasser and Hamza, who died before the conquest of Mecca (may Allah be pleased with them all). They had died at a time when Muslim’s were weak and oppressed, but they died as victors; because they died as Muslims. To live and die as Muslims means we were victorious, regardless of the state of the Muslim Ummah when we die. O Allah let it be so. Ameen! To build strong foundations in your day to day Islamic worship go to. meccanperiod
