Deep thoughts to ponder on a cold winter day: When I reflect - TopicsExpress

Deep thoughts to ponder on a cold winter day: When I reflect on all the stories of the Bible, the one that has puzzled me the most is the testimony of the only generation of people that would ever live with Jesus upon the earth. There is only one. So how could so many people who walked and talked with Jesus, and had this amazing history and special relationship with the only true God, completely miss the arrival of their prophesied King—the Messiah? Remember, John the apostle recorded that these same people had witnessed Jesus do so many special things that if it they were all written down, the whole world could not contain the books that would have to be written (John 21:25). And they still missed Him? That blows my mind! We know that the Scriptures had recorded many details of the coming Messiah and were well known to the Jewish people. Their trusted religious leaders, the Pharisees and Sadducees had been teaching for hundreds of years about what had been revealed through the Prophets, yet they missed the only King who would ever come to shepherd God’s people—Jesus the Christ. They walked many miles, came from far and near, just to hear Him teach and preach. He spoke in the streets and in the Synagogues, to priests and pauper, to men and women alike. He spoke truth to them through the Word, the Word they knew quite well. He told them the truth, told them who He was and why He came. Yet they still missed Him. He had come as a suffering servant to take away the sins of the world did not fit their ideology and they ultimately led Him to be crucified at Calvary. How is it they did not recognize Him?
