Deepak Nikhalje is brother of underworld don Chota Rajan and is the Republican Party of India (Athavale) candidate from the Chembur assembly constituency. RPI (Athavale) is one of the smaller parties that have entered into an alliance with the BJP. So now BJP’s hunger of power compels them to form an alliance with a party who has fielded a don’s brother as candidate is very disturbing. Especially now, when BJP is the ruling party and PM Modi in each and every speech talks of decriminalizing politics. Worse is the fact that our Prime Minister shared stage with don’s brother and shook hands with him and greeted him in an election rally in Mumbai. Ironically during this rally PM Modi vehemently mentioned about ‘Bahubalis’ and that now is the time they should be thrown out of politics! Can we expect MP’s and MLA’s who are facing criminal charges to ever fight against the 3 C’s corruption, communalism and crime? Now the onus lies on the voters, not to blindly follow any leader and out-rightly reject criminal candidates.
