Defence Minister David Johnston’s position is no longer tenable and he must resign. He has clearly demonstrated he will not be objective or impartial when it comes to the largest Federal Government procurement decision in the nation’s history. Three of the four bidders in the submarine tender process want to build in Australia, and Senator Johnston has denigrated the capacity of Australia’s principal shipyard – the ASC in Adelaide. It is becoming increasingly clear that the Abbott Government wants the 12 subs built overseas.
