Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections likely early next year, AAP will use the reachout campaign to release its segmentwide manifestos —next in line is a Delhi Dialogue with women —to take on the BJP that is going to polls in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name. “If voted to power, we’re committed to setting up 20 new colleges, providing loans to needy students for five years of education and one year of job hunting, and bridging the seven lakh gap between jobs and those who need them through skill development,” said AAP leader Ashish Khetan. Through Delhi Dialogue, the party wants to know the public’s image on how Delhi should be. The first event will be a colourful one with senior leaders and celebrities expecting to address a big crowd. Overall, AAP will interact with people from different walks of life and work with experts to prepare a blueprint on 50 points, based on problems of various sections of society and turn Delhi into a world-class city. The party said the 20 colleges will be set up in Delhi’s periphery in partnership with villages. “Locals will provide land; they will have a strong say in the management. Their wards — especially girls — will get priority in admissions,” Khetan, a former journalist, told HT. The city has 26 colleges either fully or partially funded by the Delhi government, but with 1.5 lakh students passing 10+2 every year, many fail to get admission because of limited seats and high costs involved. AAP is looking at this segment, especially after the ABVP, a student party sympathetic to the BJP, swept the Delhi University students’ Union elections in September. Khetan, who is heading the Delhi Dialogue team, said these were not mere poll promises. “This is an actionable blueprint with clearly identifiable deadlines. We have spent months speaking to experts.
