Democrats and independents. I see these folks battling it out - TopicsExpress

Democrats and independents. I see these folks battling it out amongst themselves daily here on the Spybook, and it prompted this long-wind comment just now. warning: boring content, no cute meme pictures... I hope this thread hasnt become worn out and were now beating that proverbial dead horse, but these things do need to be discussed. It often strikes me how were still combing through the wreckage of the 20th century firestorms well into this new century. Lenin declared at the turn of the 20th that Imperialism was the highest stage of capitalism, and for a brief moment, it looked as if that highest stage wasnt going to last much longer. But look! Two gigantic world wars later, and the capitalists were in much tighter control of the planet than before, and that control emanated from New York, Washington, London, and other financial-political centers. The USA has been in perma-war since the end of WWII and the toxic effect of this imperialist militarization of our economy and politics seem almost impossible to counteract at times. Both major political parties are creatures of this imperialism and neither show any desire to break free of it. What I think is the core difference between this century as its shaping up, and last, is that imperialism no longer has the ability to reward the domestic working class for supporting the militarism. Peak jobs (real, high-paid, unionized, manufacturing) and peak labor force participation happened about 5 years after the Vietnamese won the Vietnam War, and its now possible to talk about 1/3 to 3/8ths of our population no longer participating in the growth economy, but instead living in near-poverty, overt poverty, or super-poverty (like, $2-5 per day incomes). This is the context of the 2014 and 2016 elections. Who will step up and address this context?
