Demonic Blog: Horror Icons What makes a horror icon awesome? Simple. If they’re scary looking, kill in a gruesome manner, and have a surprisingly unique personality; they become pretty popular. Also, the craze of horror icons has been going on for many, many, years. A fine example of a great horror icon is Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The bloodthirsty vampire, that has such a charming voice, has such a huge following. What makes Dracula so astonishing, in my opinion, is the fact that he has such a sophisticated charm and yet, he’s basically a monster. Both 70’s and 80’s horror films have birthed such epic horror icons. A prime example of a huge horror icon, for 80’s horror films, is of course Freddy Krueger (played the legendary Robert Englund). What makes him so menacing is he is a relentless vengeful spirit that has a dark and twisted sense of humour. What’s more is his ghoulish image of having a severely burnt face and him wearing glove with four knives. Of course, I’m not going to waffle on and list a hell-of-a-lot of horror icons and bore you all to death. I just wanted to name a few monsters that help scare an audience. What’s strange is that you can get some horror icons that are liked in an ironic sense; one good example is Jack Frost, a serial killer snowman (that looks funny as hell). He does puns like Freddy (the Freddy in later Elm Street flicks), the snowman costume is bad in an excellent way, and he’s even got a similar motive as good ol’ Krueger…revenge. Another great example of a horror icon, that’s worshipped in an ironic sense, is of course Ginger Dead Man. A small and evil gingerbread man, reincarnation by the spirit of a criminal, that has a bite for revenge (I apologise for that bad pun (no I don’t)). Closer: As the horror genre keeps going on, they’ll be more horror icons going on and I intend to create at least one horror icon, within my lifetime.
