Demonstrating unilateral strength and control whilst possessing - TopicsExpress

Demonstrating unilateral strength and control whilst possessing both mobility and stability in the right places is ESSENTIAL for both running/sprint performance and the prevention of injury. In my opinion, you must be able to control your own body weight before you even attempt to control that of a bar or another person. Its for this reason that prior to coaching the back squat, I have all of my young athletes perform at least 10 single leg squats/pistols on each leg. Im primarily looking for good limbo-pelvic-hip control, good ankle range of motion whilst ensuring that the knee does not track inwards from the centre line of the foot. Developing this takes a lot of time, patience, and consistent practise, but the results for me so far have been amazing. With some of my youth rugby league players squatting an impressive 2.2xBW for 5reps! In the attached video is Keenan demonstrating a well executed regression of the pistol squat: the single leg box squat. Give it a try and see how you get on ;) Contact: [email protected] #cheshirebarbell #youthdevelopment #rugbyleague #CreatingMonsters #weightlifting #rugby #olympicweightlifting #strength #cheshire #squats #stability #results #ProudCouch
