Denmark : PhD scholarship in Economics of Wind Integration Application Deadline : 4 April 2014 The Systems Analysis Division is part of Department of Management Engineering, DTU. The division conducts basic and applied research within the area of energy system analysis, energy economics, policy instruments, energy demand, and climate change. The research includes renewable based energy systems and addresses national and international issues including interaction between society, consumers and businesses. Responsibilities and tasks The PhD project is a part of the 4 year research project Wind2050 - Multidisciplinary study on local acceptance and development of wind power projects. The specific tasks of the PhD project may include analysis and modelling of: Expected cost development of different sizes and types of wind turbines by Integration of technical costs and acceptance issues treated as a cost associated with windprojects Energy systems analysis, i.e. assessing the future market value of wind power in high wind penetration scenarios and in combination with other technologies Develop a cost-efficient combination of deployment of wind in land areas, near shore coastal areas and off-shore locations in Denmark The influence of acceptance cost issues for an efficient support scheme and regulatory setup for wind energy Qualifications Candidates should have a masters degree in Engineering or Economics or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to these. Preferred qualifications of the PhD candidate are furthermore Understanding of both technical and economic aspects of the power supply sector Experience with quantitative research methods Background in energy system modelling, especially optimisation models Excellent writing and communication skills Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment A longer-term interest in pursuing a research career Approval and Enrolment The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU.
