Dennis Fehr for Governor? Smart Government Everyone hates standing in line at the DMV! If you’ve ever been to the DMV, courthouse, or other government facility, you may have noticed many of their systems that manage resources and personnel are prehistorically outdated. For example, many of these services still require payment by check or cash, and if you are depending on payment by plastic, you will likely be charged a “convenience fee” for using a debit or credit card. On top of that, rather than using current record keeping technologies, many of their systems are redundant and are backed up on paper. This obviously leads to slower service and higher costs. These are only a few examples of how ridiculously inefficient our government manages resources in the state. We can do better than these outdated systems! It is absolutely urgent that we incorporate the latest technologies in management. Then we could effectively allocate our resources while still lowering the cost of our state run programs. “If the state can save money, then our families will too”. Consequently, our families of Wisconsin can potentially save millions of dollars by incorporating electronic payment and filing systems while also preventing long lines at our government service centers. This sounds great, but where do we start? To start, I suggest we consult private industry leaders such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, and GE to name a few. With their help, new ideas and the best technologies can be brought to the table, and, with the public’s help, we can decide which ideas best meet our needs. We believe that new technologies will help push the productivity envelope forward, and we can improve the way our state government interacts with its people and their businesses. What else can we do? If given the right incentives, we can implement new technologies to help manage current road and bridge conditions in the state. By using smart technology we can easily be alerted to what roads need fixing, what highways need plowing or even which streets need more lighting. The Peoples Party believes that these technologies are absolutely key in making our state the leading innovator of smart government technology and efficiency. Not only can we save millions of taxpayer dollars, but we can bring thousands of high tech jobs and the next generation of technology here first. There is no doubt that technologies of the 21st century can improve the lives of everyone in Wisconsin. If we take advantage of these technologies today, we can easily improve our lives tomorrow. Working together we can save tax dollars and drastically improve our governmental system for the people of our state. Smart people deserve smart government. dennisfehr.org/
