Depression is a cruel awful disease that clouds the mind, convinces you that you are alone, makes you feel worthless, fills you with darkness and lets you writhe in agony while your friends and family watch you suffer. Often times it is those with the biggest smiles and funniest jokes that put on as if they are the happiest people in the world that suffer in silence. Performing for your acceptance so they can feel loved and worthy of existence. Jonathan Winters once stated that many many times he stood and looked into the abyss ready to leap in. Robin Williams struggles with depression and drug abuse were ( believe it or not) well documented. I looked to him and Jonathan Winters as proof that you can live with this, survive and strive. Robin Williams death makes me so profoundly sad that I cant possibly communicate it here. As will so many before (and unfortunately after) him he just could not take the pain, everything was just too bleak and pointless (no matter what we saw and knew of him), he just wanted the hurting to stop and the tiredness to end. May he receive the peace and love he so desired to have on this earth. The rest of us must march on and pray we do not fall as he did. This is a disease of the mind, something you do not have any control over. You cannot snap out of it or toughen up to beat it. Love, acceptance, understanding along with the help and support of family and friends is the first step to a brighter tomorrow. Its not going to be easy but it can be done.
