Deprived of chance to die at home Official study shows terminally ill patients in some areas twice as likely to be able to die at home than in some deprived parts of the country. Class divides in Britain extend even to the way in which people die, a major NHS study into the treatment of terminally ill people suggests. Patients from some prosperous areas are almost twice as likely to have the chance to die at home in accordance with their wishes areas as those in deprived parts of the country. Married people are also significantly more likely to be enabled to spend their final days and hours in their home surrounded by loved-ones rather than a hospital than single or divorced people. The study by Public Heath England also highlighted evidence that dying people are more likely to pass away at home at special times of the year such as Christmas. The majority of people in England still die in hospital, but the number of deaths which occurred in someone’s home or care home has risen from just 38 per cent in 2008 to 44 per cent last year. telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10423980/Deprived-of-chance-to-die-at-home.html
