Desert Survival I have been away on a desert survival personal quest! What is that I hear you ask? Well it was a week in the Nevada desert, no cell phone, email, snail mail or watch.....weird. Best described on the web site as radical self reliance, self expression, unconditional giving, civic responsibility that leaves no physical trace of our activities. I thought it was one hell of a lot of fun!!!! Yes I survived Burning Man. A festival of 70,000 people in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada USA, that looks like a cross between a Mad Max film and a fair ground on steroids at night. Ice and coffee are the only items for sale, however you can drink Champagne and boogie at Bubbles and Base (for free) at 7Am after dancing to the sunrise on the desert floor. Cycle to find a chocolate brownie and espresso at the French Quarter café bus (for free), which lurks some where on the Playa (desert) or have fresh bread with marinated Feta cheese at a local bakery (for free). This is after a quick roller disco, foam shower, massage and desert marathon with no dollars exchange hands. It is guaranteed to change one’s life for the better… I think. It did for me! I come from a military right wing background, slightly jaded from wars, conflicts and political bull sh-t. It made me open up my eyes, making me less judgmental. It helped me realize what life is all about. Making me appreciate the simple things that are in front of my damn nose, that I sometimes forget about!!!! Yes after a week away I came back and stared at a dirty dusty pile of clothes that sat on the floor for a few days, walked around in a daze and stared at amazing photos. So if youre not into dust, dirt, limited water, smelly porta loos, no cell or internet, hugging a stranger for perhaps that awkward extra moment ….. then I suggest you come along.
