Despite David Cameron’s efforts to prevent Jean-Claude Juncker becoming the next President of the European Commission, it appears that the former Luxembourg prime minister is unstoppable. That is the message of Ivan Rogers, head of the UK’s diplomatic mission in Brussels, who has warned that “the die is cast in Berlin” in favour of Mr Juncker. The PM has made no progress yet. But Mr Rogers warns that Mr Juncker’s appointment will cause a “dramatic” backlash in the UK because of his opposition to reform, possibly leading to an early UK referendum on EU membership. #London #UK #News
