Despite having the flu, I sent our letter protesting the National Womens History Museum award for safety. The letter is being hand delivered to Senators and Representatives. I am hoping they intervene. Sent to the Senate sub-committee: November 12, 2014 Dear Members of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance, We want to thank your subcommittee you for convening several hearings this summer to investigate the General Motors safety recall that affected 1.6 million vehicles and have now been connected to 32 deaths. As a group of more than 260 friends and family members of loved ones who lost their lives or were seriously injured due to the delayed recall, we are upset and concerned that several of your colleagues will be honoring GM CEO Mary Barra with a “Katharine Graham Living Legacy” award on November 17. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Susan Collins, and Representatives Marsha Blackburn, Carolyn Maloney and Eleanor Holmes-Norton are serving as Co-Chairs of the National Women’s History Museum ceremony, which is scheduled to honor Mary Barra in Washington, DC. We are confident you recognize why we are so concerned with bestowing Mrs. Barra with such an honor at this time. Enclosed is a letter we have sent to the congressional co-chairs listed above asking them to withhold this award. Given your subcommittee’s leadership in convening the hearings to hold Mrs. Barra and GM accountable, we ask for your help on this matter. Sincerely, Laura Christian
