Destiny Vs. Determination......Lets talk about Omisore. Nobody - TopicsExpress

Destiny Vs. Determination......Lets talk about Omisore. Nobody has dominated the politics of Ile-Ife more than their industrious son, Dr. Christopher Iyiola Omisore. Born in 1958 into the popular Omisore family, he grew grew up in Ile Ife under a very political environment. Ive schooled in Ife for four years now and i doubt if any family could boast of the wealth and popularity that distinguish the Omisore family. Funny enough,Even in his family, we have two Iyiolas. Omisore was a young millionaire as far back as the early 90s and everybody knew it was only a matter of time before he would venture into the lucrative political business. When Abdul salam Abubakar declared his choice to return power to the civilians in 1998, Omisore,at 41 was one of the aspirants, afterall, he had everything in place to realise his ambition. As the struggle for the ticket of Alliance for Democracy became competitive, Omisore was advised to drop his ambition, to support Chief Bisi Akande. Dont forget, Akande was already a notable politician in Nigeria. Bisi Akande was the deputy to Chief Bola Ige between 1979 to 1983 in the old Oyo state before Dr. Victor Olunloyo succeded Ige. After the election, Omisore became the deputy to Akande. Akande confessed that Omisore bought the cars they used during the regime. At a point in time, the state government was financially bankrupt, Omisore supplied the money to be paid to the workers. Omisore and the Bola Ige scandal: dont quote me but as far as I know, Omisore was NOT responsible for the death of Chief Bola Ige. I wont say more than this, some things are better left unsaid. After the dispute with Akande and the AD, Omisore dumped his boss. Chief Sooko Adeleke was chosen to replace Omisore. In 2003, Omisore was a member of the PDP and was also one of the aspirants to declare the interest to contest against Bisi Akande. He was advised to step down AGAIN, this time to Olagunsoye Oyinlola. He agreed to step down and opted for the senate. He became a senator and was made the Chairman, house committee on Appropriation. The deal that made him step down in 2003 was that he would be made the flagbearer of the PDP when Oyinlola finishes his regime in 2011 but was fate would have it, three months to the 2011 gubernatorial election, Rauf Aregbesola was declared winner of the 2007 election. He contested the senate in 2011 against Jide Omowarare of APC but lost. He contested the August 9 Osun state election and lost to Aregbesola. He polled 292,000 votes, which is so impressive. By 2018 when the next election will take place in Osun state, Iyiola Omisore would be 60. Maybe, just maybe his best chance to achieve his dream has passed him. Ive met him few times and i will still appreciate meeting him over time. Omisores case has been a case of destiny versus determination. He is a worthy philantropist and a man I respect.
