Detectives from the Property Crime Squad have arrested and charged two men as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged car re-birthing. Earlier this year, police from the Property Crime Squad’s Motor Unit formed Strike Force Stromeferry to investigate an alleged car re-birthing syndicate operating in western Sydney. On Friday 4 July 2014, Strike Force Stromeferry detectives executed a search warrant at a property on Greendale Road, Bringelly. During the warrant, police seized four intact vehicles (believed to have been re-birthed), two dismantled vehicles and 10 engines which appeared to have had their identification numbers removed. Numerous other vehicle parts were also seized by police for forensic examination. Following their inquiries, Strike Force Stromeferry detectives arrested and charged two men over the course of the last week. Last Wednesday (10 September 2014), detectives arrested a 35-year-old Bringelly man at Green Valley Police Station. On Monday (15 September 2014), detectives arrested a 38-year-old Bringelly man at Sydney Airport, shortly after he arrived on a flight from Bangkok. Both men have been charged with: - One count of knowingly facilitate organised car rebirthing activity; - 10 counts of goods in custody; - Nine counts of possess vehicle identification plate not attached to vehicle; and, - Seven counts of possess motor vehicle where unique identifier has been interfered with. Granted conditional bail, the men are scheduled to appear in Liverpool Local Court on 1 October 2014.
