Detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad have arrested and charged a fifth person as part of an ongoing investigation into a spate of armed robberies at restaurants in south-western and western Sydney earlier this year. Earlier this year, officers attached to the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad formed Strike Force Nutba to investigate a number of incidents, including: - The armed robbery of a recreational facility in Campbelltown on 2 February 2014; - The armed robbery of a restaurant in Narellan on 5 February 2014; - The attempted armed robbery of a restaurant in Campbelltown on 6 February 2014; and, - The armed robbery of a restaurant in Penrith on 10 February. Each robbery involved at least two men entering the property, and threatening a cleaner with a firearm, before attempting to gain access to any on-site cash. Earlier today (Wednesday 25 June 2014), Strike Force Nutba officers arrested a 38-year-old Leeton man after he was transferred to Wagga Wagga Police Station from a government facility in Junee. The man was subsequently charged with numerous offences including: - Five counts of robbery in company whilst armed; - Two counts of detain for advantage (aggravated); - Two counts of possess firearm; and, - One count of aggravated break and enter. He was refused bail and appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court today, where he was again refused bail to next appear in Campbelltown Local Court on 30 June 2014. The Leeton man’s arrest follows the arrests of three men and a woman last month. All four are currently before the courts. The investigation by Strike Force Nutba continues.
