Detectives have released CCTV footage after a man was assaulted in an unprovoked attack on Broad Street. The man, aged 21, from Cannock, had been on a night out in Bar Risa on Broad Street in the City Centre, when he was subjected to an unprovoked attack at around 2:45AM on Saturday 5th April. The man was first approached by his attacker inside the club, who threw a punch and knocked him to the floor whilst on the dancefloor. Security asked the group involved in the disorder to move outside, where the man demanded to know why the man had assaulted him. His attacker then punched him again, before a second man also joined in and punched him to the face. The man and his friend ran off and managed to get away from the scene in a taxi but his injuries were so severe he ended up going to hospital, where he received 22 stitches to his lip and facial cuts. DC Antony Hammerton, who is investigating the assault and urges witnesses to come forward, said: Broad Street is bound to have been busy with people still enjoying the nightlife or making their way when this attack happened, he said. It was around 2.45am on a Saturday and people would doubtless have been leaving the various pubs and clubs so may well have seen something and be able to help us identify those involved. The young man suffered serious facial injuries and has no idea why the group decided to attack him that night but is left with scars and distressing memories of his ordeal. Please call WMP on 101 if you have ANY information.
