Detroit Audubon Society is now a member of the Detroit Coalition Against Tar Sands (D-CATS), a coalition including the Sierra Club and the East Michigan Environmental Action Council working to stop the dumping of toxic pet coke (residue left after tar sands oil is refined) piles on the Detroit River, and to stop tar sands generally because it dirty oil, would mean according to Dr. James Hanses, "game over for Climate Change," and is already turning the beautiful Boreal Forest where many of our warbler species nest, into a moon scape, at the same time depriving the earth of one its most important carbon sinks (photosynthesis take CO2 out of the atmosphere).
