Devotion ~ FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT – SATURDAY Psalm 90 Isaiah 4:2-6 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (Bold ~ Luke 21:5-19) Hymn: “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” #153 Come Thou long expected Jesus, Born to set They people free. From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel’s Strength and Consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. https://youtube/watch?v=ER_YIXDXXF4 Thoughts: Some read about the signs of Jesus’ return, His second Advent, and they worry and fret. What will happen? How will it happen? Will we possibly lose our faith? How horrible will it be? Do you believe God will give you enough faith to withstand whatever may come, should the return of Jesus be imminent? Dave Stone told about his daughter who had gone swimming with him. She was scared, although she had the little floaters on her arms and was in the shallow end. She asked her dad for permission to come where he was. She dog-paddled over to him, going from the 3 foot section to the 6 feet deep, to the 9 and then the twelve. Dave said, “When she came up to me she grabbed my neck, and her look of panic gave way to relief. Next to her father she felt secure, and it made very little difference how deep or how dangerous the water was.” If thoughts of how bad the world may be prior to the return of Jesus Christ scare you – maybe you need to move closer to your Heavenly Father. Prayer: O God, in Jesus Christ You promised to never abandon us, but to be with us always, even to the end of the age. Help us move close to You during times of trial, knowing that with You, we can endure, to the glory of Jesus Christ, in Whose name we pray. Amen. Copyright © 2013 by the Rev.
