Devotion for 29 Sep 2013 “(David) being a prophet…” (Act.2:30) The Lord had anointed David with a special anointing to be a prophet and to be a king and a shepherd to steer His people. When David numbered his people, the people of God were attacked with a plague. Then David prayed, “Surely I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, be against me and against my father’s house,” and he steered them according to the faithfulness of his heart. When it is said, ‘prophet,’ it means, the one who envisions correctly, foresees the truth deeply afar and proclaims. David was a prophet who had seen and received the true revelations about the beauty and characteristics of the Lord. David envisioned as a prophecy and tasted that truth as his own experience saying, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters,” that Jesus Christ, who was born as the son of David after many centuries, would tell as, “I am the good shepherd; He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” He prophesied about the anointing of Christ as, “He anoints my head with oil.” He says, “The Lord is my rock.” He had known prophetically that Christ is the Spiritual Rock. He says in Psa.27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?” Christ Jesus is the true light that came into this world. David had known this prophetically and said about what Jesus told as, “I am the light of the world.” Let us seek such true revelations and also the gift of prophecy. Do not believe in the false prophecies that drift us away. I pray that the Lord may open your eyes to give everyone of you the experience of seeing Him. May the Lord do so. Amen. Prayer: O God of David! You have made the sure mercies of David as an everlasting covenant to us. Open my eyes so that I may behold your glory and bless me too. Amen!
