Dewey Terry and Don Sugarcane Harris (Don & Dewey) are one of the most under-acknowledged recording/performing acts in the history of rock. African-American teens who came from Pasadena, they really had no hits of their own as performers, but would write many hit songs for others. Im Leaving it Up to You - which they released in 1957 - would become a #1 hit for Dale & Grace in 1963. They also wrote Justine, Big Boy Pete, and Farmer John. As an act they recorded for Specialty Records, the same label as Little Richard, and in 1964 the three of them teamed up but there were no hits from the union. Don - who also played electric violin - would later record with Frank Zappa and John Mayall. I consider myself lucky to have seen Don & Dewey perform in the 90s at a club called Cozys in Sherman Oaks, CA, when they were backed up by an all female band called The Scarlets. It was quite a show. Don died in 1999 and Dewey passed away in 2003. https://youtube/watch?v=QeUEGf1Nl1M
