"Diagnosis: Olecranon Fracture This gelding has sustained a comminuted (multi-fragmented) fracture of the olecranon or elbow. This has disrupted the triceps muscles, preventing the horse from “fixing” the limb in extension and permitting weight-bearing. The main bone strut (the radius) of the forearm is intact. A full limb bandage and splint were placed for transport. Surgical repair with bone screws and a plate was performed. He was stall confined for about 4 months and made a complete recovery to full athletic work at 6 months post-operatively." ~ Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital
