Diamond day: AN adventurous spirit has seen Connolly couple Bill and Emma Wood through 60 happy years of marriage.Since leaving Yorkshire in 1965, they have lived in most Australian cities and fulfilled their love of adventure by climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge and Uluru and flying over the Antarctic. They are looking forward to a hot-air balloon flight, a diamond wedding anniversary gift from son Robert. Yorkshire-born Bill first noticed 13-year-old Emma, whose family were Czech refugees, at school during cooking classes. “Emma was small and they called her half-pint,” Bill said. “I rather liked the little half pint.” The couple met again several years later, marrying on September 7, 1953. Bill (81) served with the British Army in the Middle East, Germany and Cyprus while Emma (81) worked in a textile mill. He later resumed work as a boilermaker-welder, eventually bringing his skills and family to New South Wales as 10-pound Poms. Bill worked around Australia, in New Zealand and in New Caledonia. The couple moved to Perth to join their son 10 years ago but still have fond memories of the Blue Mountains, where they lived for 27 years. “Tolerance, give and take and trust have seen us through,” said Bill, who thanked everyone for their anniversary gifts and congratulations. dlvr.it/42DcDB #NEWSANDVIEWSLocalNews (inMyCommunity) #perth #perthnews
