Diane Marie Crow-Fox gave me an idea. What if we (McKinleyville residents) demonstrated a weekly night lights campaign. Each neighborhood would pick a day of the week to have their night lights campaign. The Night Lights campaign would mean that neighborhood goes out for a walk, with headlamps or flashlights, from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. It wouldnt be a group walk, but the neighborhood goes on a walk during that time. You choose your route, you bring your family, pets or just yourself. If you see other neighbors out, say hi to them and introduce yourself to them. Its healthy and social and if each neighborhood has their specific day, you would know most people are out for that reason. Walks are great, healthy, social and it gets us away from our keyboards (for a little while). If we all pick a night, there will be on average of a couple neighborhoods out walking each night. The bad folks will feel like we are out there every night. Every six month each neighborhood could pick a different night. We could post on this site each neighborhoods Night Light day as a reminder.
