Diary update from the fabulous Mr Richard Ford!! Hi, A lovely night out at an Italian restaurant with friends was a perfect departure as I depart to rehab in York The wifi would not connect well in my room at rehab so I made frequent visits to the reception area to check my e-mails! I really enjoyed rehab It was nice; a shower every morning, doors that I could open, sockets I could reach and lights I could switch off / on, a stroll around the garden to see the bunnies, squirrels and fish - all things that previously took for granted! A well equipped gym and they had an exercise bike like mine which I used whenever the physio was there. Food great just a shame the sun didnt shine! The kind chef even gave me an ipad charger after I ran over mine! I guess you could say Ive put in some effort? Ive been standing all the time for ALL transfers using the manual turner (electric stand aids seemed in short supply and there was no way I was going to go back to the hoist!) they thought I used the turner at home so I wasnt telling them any different. A lot of standing against the parallel bars in physio. Some decent stands so my confidence was high and I pushed it too far with knee bends, i went too low and my legs gave way and I got wedged between the frame and my wheelchair with my head between my legs with another patient (with speech impairment) shouting for help whist a physio tried to hold on to me!! No damage done except some wounded pride. I needed a coffee but later on I was ready for more! In the meantime I got lots of attention from the nurses. I wouldnt normally be too enthusiastic about shopping but a trip to York was a great way to experience some normality again. I think I passed my imaginary driving test along those cobbled streets but Im sure a pre-stroke Richard would have run over all those pedestrians that were not looking where they were going and the jobs worth bus driver who wasnt too keen on getting the ramps out in the rain. Back at home our kitchen wall has been removed in order that I can access it. Eventually we would like a lowered work top / breakfast bar but in the meantime its nice to sit around the table again. Weve been hit with the news that our excellent childminder will be reducing her hours due to work commitments. We didnt know what to do until my carers suggested employing a mothers help so the ads gone off to the newspaper. This is a great idea but the interviews could be interesting? Rich
