There were many laws about food, and eating meat of different animals. Different types of animals in the Bible are given as clean and unclean in the sight of God. So did Jesus eat meat? Yes Jesus definitely did eat meat! What meat did Jesus eat? Jesus eats fish Deuteronomy 11:9-12 tells us that Jesus was allowed to eat meat from the ocean, from seas and from rivers and streams. More particularly the meat that he was allowed to eat from the ocean, seas, rivers and streams would be meat that had scales and fins. Some of his disciples were fishermen, and Jesus even refers to them as becoming ‘fishers of men’. John 21:1-14 shows Jesus preparing a meal, after his death and resurrection. He tells his disciples to eat some fish (meat they are allowed to eat) after having prepared it on a beach. Jesus eats other meat The Jewish festival of the Passover included various types of food that Jesus would have eaten. In Luke 22:8-15 we can see that he took part in the festival just before his death. He probably ate lamb with the meal – you can see in Exodus 12 that each family was to take a lamb and prepare it for themselves to eat during the passover. Jesus would have practiced this also and so it is fair to say that he would have eaten lamb. What meat did Jesus not eat? Jesus would have avoided many types of meat. The most common food that people think of is pork, however there are many other animals or types of meat that Jesus would not have eaten. They include: weasels, ferrets, camels, lizards, pelican, and owl, just to name a few.
