Did Luther and Calvin simply develop and more carefully articulate biblical truths that the Church Fathers and medieval theologians affirmed? Is it possible that the Protestant leaders merely stood on the shoulders of many prominent men before them and taught the same truths? If so, when in church history were the doctrines of grace initially advanced, and who were the men who first grasped and promoted them? It is my contention that, concerning the doctrines of grace, virtually nothing new was taught during the Reformation era. . . .
