Did Oscar Pistorius Shoot In Self Defense? - The consensus of the comments of the major SA news page, indeed pretty much every comment, (did not read all thousand or so) was that (1) no reasonable gun owner would shoot through a door without knowing 100% where each other occupant of the house was; and (2) Four shots was three too many; and (3) he admits he intended to fire the pistol at whomever was behind the door, so the firing of the gun was intentional, even if shooting his girlfriend was a mistake. I cannot say how that works out under South African law. After all, we get results like those that have occurred in Florida here in the US. But in Michigan, this dude would be convicted of something and heading for prison for sure. Comparing different justice systems is interesting, but possibly only to lawyers and social scientists.
