Did You Know? Keep your kitchen stocked with quick and healthy meals so you can serve dinner on the double and still have time for a workout. Feel like you don’t have time to exercise? You’re not alone. Research shows that Americans feel they often sacrifice exercise to get a healthy meal on the table. The more time people spent preparing a healthful meal, the less time they devoted to working out. But that doesn’t mean you have to choose between one or the other. If you feel you must choose, public health experts recommend exercising. No, they’re not saying you should forgo dinner. It just means that you have to plan ahead to whip up a fast “healthful” meal on the fly. Some people do all of their cooking on Sunday nights so they’ll have leftovers to reheat throughout the week. Others keep an arsenal of quick and easy, healthy recipes and foods on hand. According to Amy Jamieson-Petonic, MEd, RD, CSSD, director of coaching at the Cleveland Clinic and creator of the online program Go! Foods for You, you’ll be much less likely to reach for unhealthy food if you stock your cupboards with plenty of quick and healthful options like whole-wheat pasta, canned tuna, canned beans and frozen or fresh vegetables.
