Did You Know? Since 2009, 1,268 parolees have gotten work experience and helped keep California clean by picking up 110,000 cubic yards of litter from our highways through the Caltrans Parolee Program. The CDCR-Caltrans partnership allows parolees up to three months of work after they are released from prison. Program participants have remarkably low recidivism rates. For example, in Sacramento County, parolees not in the Caltrans program have a 59.4% chance of going back to prison within three years. For those who do participate, that rate is 5%. Today is Caltrans annual litter pickup and awareness day. Learn more at adopt-a-highway.dot.ca.gov. Learn more about the Caltrans Parolee Program at ow.ly/w8myv.
