Did anyone watch the BBC programme about the Referendum from Portree? I was taken aback on so many things such as not having one single person from the Isle of Skye on the Panel or for that matter from the North and West Highlands or indeed the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. All were from Central Scotland and they clearly had little grasp on the problems or the possibilities that face this area of Scotland. It was as if the panel were parachuted into the area spreading the message from Central Scotland and out to the outer reaches of the planet. They couldnt even answer the first question without falling back on the economic argument. Do they not see there is more to the Independence Referendum than economics. It also shows that the BBC only takes people from Central Scotland and forgets about the local area. The political system we have in Scotland has created very few leaders or spokespeople. Which is not a good sign for the area in future years. The format of the programme stifles any hard debate in getting to the nub of the issue or to actually inform the general public. I thought the BBC would have done much better than this in Scotland at least with Scottish presenters. But obviously they fall very short of the mark when it comes to rural, Highland and island areas. Really poor programme. I got the feeling it was colonial attitudes towards the Highlands and Islands that was the real winner.
