Did you ever see a spreading adder?? Little buggers will scare you outta your wits even if you know they are harmless. He goes Hisssss and looks like a cobra with its head all flattened out. I hear they will roll over and play possum but I never hung around long enough to see that happen. A snake is a snake is a snake to me. I only saw a spreading adder one time in my life and that was enough. I almost stepped on this little varmint walking down a field road on a hot August afternoon on my way to water the cows. My hearing was better back then and I heard this hiss , looked down and there he was , tail raised and head all puffed up. I was just a teenager and demonstrated to the world my young and agile body,, I sure wish there had been videos back then and someone had caught this on film ,,,, I do believe I set a worlds record of the broad jump from a standing position.
