Did you ever wonder why you have to ignore the 1st through fourth century church in order to believe as you choose to believe? In 107 AD Ignatius who was a disciple of John and placed as bishop of Antioch by Peter before he left for Rome, said where Jesus Christ is there is the Catholic Church. He also believed in the authority of Rome. Ignatius also wrote letters to Clement who was third bishop of Rome and according to Tertulian ordained a priest by Peter. When, therefore, the mixed cup [wine and water] and the baked bread receives the Word of God and becomes the Eucharist, the body of Christ, and from these the substance of our flesh is increased and supported, how can they say that the flesh is not capable of receiving the gift of God, which is eternal life—flesh which is nourished by the body and blood of the Lord, and is in fact a member of him?
