According to Janelle Gelfand for Enquirer - Cincinnati and Kentucky, The program opened with Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, with Ukrainian-born pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk as soloist. To say that Gavrylyuk wowed in his debut would be an understatement. The 30-year-old phenom, who has won gold in both the Horowitz and the Rubinstein piano competitions, possesses astonishing technical ability. His hands were a blur in fiendishly difficult double octave passages, yet he smiled through it all, seeming to relish the challenge.
