Did you know? Its not what you know, its who you know . . . The Madison Scouts traveled out to Boston, MA, for the 1955 VFW Nationals, just missing their first-ever national championship by only 0.35 of a point (to St. Vincents Cadets from Bayonne, NJ). The corps toured many Eastern cities on their trip, including New York City. They decided to head to the United Nations building, but when they found out the tour cost $1.00 per member, they realized the $66.00 total was not in their budget and they sadly passed it up. A young lady named Carolyn Piper was a U.N. tour guide and she noticed the guys walking around. It turned out that her brother had marched with the Madison corps several years earlier and after learning of their plight, she arranged for a free tour for the entire group.
