Did you know? Naughty, naughty, naughty . . . In March 1969, two members of the Portland, OR, Hawks junior corps wrote a letter which mentioned the director of a rival corps, his family, the state VFW and American Legion. The letter contained numerous obscenities. The result was that the two were suspended from the drum corps activity for a year and the Hawks were banned from the Northwest Association until June 15, 1970. Hawks management had to send letters of apology to all concerned. Interestingly, there was a resolution calling for permanent, lifetime bans on the two former members, but the person who ruled it should only be one year was Bruce Plumb, the Royal Lancers director who had been attached in the letter.
