Did you know…? That 100 years ago today, around 120 Salvation Army members, including the national leaders and band, were killed when RMS Empress of Ireland sank in the Saint Lawrence River in Canada. The boat had been carrying them to an international celebration in England – the vessel sank in only 14 minutes. This week the Canadian Staff Band marked the centenary of the tragedy at a memorial service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There has been an annual memorial service at the cemetery since the disaster to recognise the Salvationists who lost their lives.
