One important aspect about spiritual music composers is that in addition to large oratorio type compositions, most have also written smaller vocal pieces, such as motets for example, or instrumental chamber orchestra or organ pieces, such as preludes, fugues or canons. One of these pieces has become one of the most popular classical music pieces in general; some of you will know, I am talking about Canon in D by German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel. It was only that during 1970 highly prominent French conductor and mathematician Jean-François Paillard made transcription of this piece of music and became, after centuries of being forgotten, became suddenly an instant hit. It was hypothesized that this music piece was written for wedding of Bachs brother as composer has been friend and teacher in Bachs family ....There are many recordings of the Canon in D, but one USA piano version has been very, if not most popular as single instrumental - it is adaptation by Professor Lee Gallaway from UC San Diego, who has spent fair amount of his career being an active music educator. His style includes tendency toward easy listening shift of classical music, which may be one reason for his popularity among general audiences, but it is typically unlike traditional EU music critic - here I would have to agree, it is not my style either, however, this particular adaptation has captured Billboards.
