Did you know that DRAW supports many Hospice type dogs? We have, in our foster homes, a 16 year old, partially blind, quite arthritic, Chihuahua named Pepe. Pepe was boarded in rescue and one day the payment for boarding stopped coming..and his owners stopped responding to calls and emails. He is kind of a nippy mess of a little dog so he is being allowed to live out his life as a permanent foster. We also have JoJo who is a 7 year old Pomeranian. He was adopted from us a few years ago and was returned when his health issues became more than his owner could manage. JoJo has an autoimmune disorder that causes chronic skin issues as well as eye and ear issues. More recently it was discovered that JoJo has cancer. He is a sweet boy, also being allowed to live out the remainder of his life as a permanent foster. We have Billy, who is a 14 year old Pit Bull mix. Billy has multiple health issues, all age related. Between that and some challenges behaviorally, he is simply living out his life as a permanent foster. At adoption events people mostly see our cute and readily adoptable dogs. But there are quite a few dogs that do better just being allowed to stay behind. They are happy, safe and comfortable. (Though you may frequently see Dante at adoption events..his 14 year old self is always happiest with his foster Mom..wherever that may be!)
