Did you know that JP Morgan died a pauper? Because of his love of art, he spent his fortune, collecting the greatest masterpieces that money could buy, to found the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. We usually hear about how JP Morgan was a Wall Street slime bucket, who caused Nikola Tesla to die a pauper. Well, they both sort of shared the same fate of dying poor and leaving behind legacies that are still enjoyed today. The Met is vast and jaw-dropping museum of art, in which one can lose oneself and visit dozens of times and still not have seen the whole permanent collection, to say nothing of the constant parade of temporary exhibits. Ive been lucky enough to be going there since I was a little kid and Ill never tire of it. So, after a week of delivering my readers an endless mess of sordid, icky stories, I thought it would be nice for us to take a break and see magnificent works of art from every corner of the globe, from distant times to the present. Founded in 1870, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is a 3D encyclopedia of art history. (You can fast-forward through the slightly cheesy intro) to enter the transporting and varied worlds of art within its walls.
