Did you know that Ozzy Osbournes real name is John Micheal Osbourne? Yeah, no joke. Originally with the band Black Sabbath, formed in Birmingham in 1968, the band quickly became a classic of their time, and still is today. The song we feature here, relative to our cause is War Pigs, originally debuting on their album Paranoid, Sabbaths second studio album released in September of 1970. Originally entitled Walpurgis, (adapted from an English missionary in Germany) the song was inspired by war stories the band heard at an American Air Force base while touring Europe. They wrote the song while in a grim deserted place in Zurich. Though the song is widely interpreted as being evil, as with many non-conforming metal and rock music, it was actually written as an anti-war song. So true the saying goes, brush it off as Satanic if you want the truth to remain silent, right? Here is an original performing by the band in 1970 played in Paris.
