Did you know that Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn? It has been a Scottish heraldic symbol since the 12th century. The Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland still has the English lion on the left and the Scottish unicorn on the right, with the Royal Coat of Arms for use in Scotland having them the other way around. FYI – the heraldic unicorn is pictures as being chained, as a free unicorn was a dangerous beast not to be reckoned with by anyone but the purest innocent (notice the chain below). … the more you know…
