Did you know that around 1000 years ago, Indian Brahmans vaccinated against smallpox ? And in England in 1700 it was done too, and the rates of the disease dropped from 30% to 2%. But using cells from Cowpox spread unfounded fears of people turning into COWS....so vaccinating stopped. The word vaccine is derived from the Latin, vacca which means cow.....also akin to, vasa which is cow or related to it...in Sanskrit. You should watch the NOVA program on vaccinations. (PBS) ON MY SOAPBOX.... Many parents are too young to remember polio killing and crippling children. They have not seen hundreds of children permanently in leg braces and crutches; they may not have ever heard of an Iron Lung let alone seen one. (Oh lord ! Google that if you dont know what they were.) And there are other terrible diseases like small pox, whooping cough and measles, which can be deadly. (Google images of small pox while youre at it !) The reason dire warnings about the return of these diseases dont raise fear as it should is because generations of children have been successfully VACCINATED...thereby ERADICATING those diseases from the U.S., and much of the world. Most of our population has never seen deadly disease....so it seemingly doesnt exist ! Many just dont understand the awful consequences of masses of unvaccinated people. Im all for questioning unnecessary medication, and not opposed to spreading out vaccination schedule dates. But not vaccinating ones children is far more dangerous for the children, as well as society as a whole. One person in thousands might have a negative reaction...I understand that, but widespread refusal to immunize children is a throwback to medicine as it was is 1950. Nothing good can come from such decisions.
