Did you know that both male and female pileated woodpeckers with contribute to feeding newly hatched young by regurgitating things like ants, beetles, and berries? Usually shy, these woodpeckers are showing their fearless side. Family groups will usually remain together through the summer months. If you are out and about and happen to hear trumpeting calls and drumming sounds look to the trees and you might be lucky enough to spot one, if not a group of these, pileated woodpeckers.
